Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are important to Millcreek’s housing future. While they are not a silver bullet that can fully meet Millcreek City’s housing needs, they are critical to providing neighborhood-scale infill housing. As a simple and affordable option for many people, these units can provide much-needed workforce housing, housing for students, and older individuals the option to age comfortably with family. They can also offer homeowners additional income and increase their property values. Overall, ADUs can build wealth and opportunity in Millcreek City's neighborhoods by allowing homeowners to participate in their neighborhoods' incremental development.
By easing a few ADU development standards within Millcreek City’s code, we can accommodate diverse housing needs without compromising the integrity of our community.
The changes proposed by Millcreek City will allow more homeowners to invest in their property (and their community, for that matter) by building an ADU. I support this policy as a necessary first step toward incremental density and increased housing in every neighborhood in Millcreek City.
I support the changes in the proposed Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) code (ZT-24-001).
